As the Nova Scotia representative on the NTC, the member must actively participate on the committee to the best of their abilities. Should a NTC representative step down from their role prior to the completion of their tenure they must notify Skills Compétences Canada, and Skills Canada - Nova Scotia so a suitable replacement can be found.

Responsibilities of NTC Members
For the Skills Canada National Competition
• Identify the skills and techniques to be tested and evaluated during the competition, keeping in mind common industry standards, practices, and requirements.
• As a committee, develop the contest description, project documents, judging criteria, working documents and a competition timetable. Ensure that the contest is designed to minimize grievances.
• Develop a list of equipment and materials to be used at the event and assist in the acquisition of these materials.
• Consider safety concerns and implement measures to ensure a safe competition for all participants.
• If necessary, develop a Try a Trade® and Technology activity.
• If necessary, develop infrastructure list for the Try a Trade® and Technology activity.
• Provide all documentation to the National Secretariat, in a timely manner, for formatting, translation and copying.
• Implement the Skills Canada Competition Quality Assurance Management process.
• Suggest innovative ways of better promoting / marketing the contest during the competition
• Assist the host province / territory in planning for the event and whenever possible, lead in the evaluation process of the competitors.
• Respond to questions and inquiries from individuals from within your province and National Secretariat.
• Work collaboratively and professionally with the members of your committee.
• Assist in all competition execution activities including setting up the contest site, solving problems encountered at the contest site, daily toolbox checks, judging, tabulation of scores, collation of rankings, and dismantling of the contest site.
• Abide by competition rules and review / sign the Code of Ethics
Ongoing Responsibilities
• All NTC MEMBERS MUST BE MEMBERS OF THE PTC (Provincial Technical Committee) for their respective contest area and are expected to be actively involved in the planning, preparation and execution of the Nova Scotia Skills Competition.
• All NTC members are expected to share the knowledge gained as an NTC member with the PTC to help improve the provincial competition and to ensure that it is closely aligned with the national competition.
• Assist with training / preparation of the Nova Scotia competitor to compete at the Skills Canada National Competition (impartiality is very important and NTC members are not expected to share sensitive or confidential material)
Please note: If NTC members do not fully participate in all aspects of the NTC they may be removed from their position. If a member’s conduct has been detrimental to the hosting of their contest area or the competition as a whole, they shall be removed from their NTC position. Any decisions on the removal of a National Technical Committee member will be made in consultation between the SCC National Secretariat and Skills Canada – Nova Scotia.

I have notified my direct supervisor and have received approval to participate on the NTC.
The NTC may be asked to attend meetings and perform tasks during regular business hours. This could impact minimal absences from daily work schedules. The role also includes travel to other Canadian provinces and territories.
It is the responsibility of the successful applicant to notify and receive approval from their Academic Chair (if an NSCC employee) or your direct supervisor to participate on the NTC.
