The 2024 Nova Scotia Skills Competition season has finally come to an end! 2024 was a particularly special season for Skills Canada-Nova Scotia, as it marked the 25th anniversary of our organization and the Nova Scotia Skills Competition.

The turnout to compete was excellent, and we had well over 300 registered competitors from all across the province. We successfully hosted 39 competition events at nine different venues, including the NSCC Aviation Institute, NSCC – Akerley Campus, NSCC – Ivany Campus, NSCC – Kingstec Campus, NSCC – Marconi Campus, NSCC – Pictou Campus, the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia, the UA Local 56 Training Centre, and the Building Trades Advancement College of Nova Scotia. A massive thank you to all of the locations that offered to host the competitions.

School tours of the competitions, Career Showcases, the NSCC Tech Showcase, and Skilled Futures events allowed students to take in competition action firsthand, try a variety of Try-A-Trade® activities, and explore skilled trade and technology career options. Nearly 1500 students from across the province toured our events.

2024 was also a year of firsts for the competitions, as we piloted our first-ever Abilympics Showcase—a new competition pathway for persons with disabilities to demonstrate their unique talents in a relaxed and accessible competition setting. Abilympics Showcase events included cooking, character design, and photography.

Thank you to all our partners, volunteers, coaches, staff, and PTC members who helped us make it all happen. We can’t give enough praise to the amazing people and organizations that help us deliver the Nova Scotia Skills Competition each year.

Such a high standard of excellence was displayed in 2024 as the competitors continued to raise the bar at each event. With so much talent, judges were forced to take second and third passes on projects, resulting in tightly contested competitions decided by razor-thin margins. We want to express our sincere gratitude to all of the competitors. Whether you medaled or not, your determination to excel and showcase your talents was inspiring.
