Volunteer of the Year Award
At Skills Canada – Nova Scotia, we work with hundreds of volunteers every year. These include: board members, teachers, instructors, industry reps, alumni, workshop facilitators, volunteers who plan & deliver our competitions and coaches who help train our competitors. These volunteers sit on committees and help create policies and strategic plans that strengthen our organization.

Hi, I’m Chris and my responsibility as the Promotions Coordinator with SCNS has been to hop into classrooms, from grades 8-12, to talk to students about their future – what they could be doing, what we offer, and you know, life. While doing that, I decided I want to do something the students would remember.
So, I crafted what I refer to as ‘spoken word’ piece, but more of an acapella rap to the students. I’d give my presentation, throw out my stats and stories, play a few games and then recap everything with the spoken word. Turns out, it was pretty good. Students were loving it. Then I got word I could perform it at the 2016 Skills Excellence Awards, and because of that, I’m able to share it with you! So check it out!
